titleOfInvention Process for electroplating of metals and apparatus for effecting the same
abstract Metals, especially those subject to oxidation under electrolytic conditions, e.g. Pb, Sn, and Fe, are electrolytically deposited from solutions of their inorganic salts, in a 3-compartment cell 1 formed by two porous partitions 13, 14, the central compartment 11 separating the <PICT:0992767/C6-C7/1> anode 12, and cathode cells 10, the metal salt-solution being introduced into the cathode cell, and water in the anode cell, which flushes the acid formed with hydrogen generated therein into the central compartment, from which it is drawn off with the depleted metal salt solution flowing in from the cathode cell. The rates of flow of water and electrolyte are adjusted so that the partitions prevent migration of ferrous salt into the anode cell. The process may be applied to regenerating spent acid pickle. The porous diaphragms are made of microporous P.V.C. or rubber held between screens. Vents are provided for the oxygen and hydrogen gases generated.
