| abstract | An aqueous detergent composition comprises, by weight, (a) 18-40% R(OC2H4)#c SO4Me wherein R is a C10- 14- straight chain alkyl group of which at least 50% contain 12 carbon atoms, #c is 0-4, and Me is mono-, di-, or tri-ethanolamine, ammonium, sodium or potassium, or mixtures thereof, preferably the ammonium salt of the sulphated condensate of 3 mols. ethylene oxide with 1 mol. middle out coconut alcohol; (b) R1R2R3N --> O, wherein R1 is a C10- 14-straight chain alkyl group of which at least 50% contains 12 carbon atoms, and R2 and R3 are alkyl groups which each have 1 or 2 carbon atoms, the weight ratio of (a): (b) being 3-7: 1; and (c) at least 5%, but preferably not more than 40%, of methanol, ethanol, n- or iso-propanol, or mixtures thereof. Up to 5% of sodium, potassium or ammonium toluene or xylene sulphonate or mixtures thereof may suitably also be added. Inorganic salts in amounts up to 12%, opacifiers such as ethylene glycol distearate or polystyrene in amounts up to 3%, ammonium citrate, perfume, viscosity control agents, colour and perfume may also be included. |
