titleOfInvention Bacteriostatic adducts of pyridine and pyrimidine derivatives
abstract The invention comprises bacteriostatic adducts of hydroxy- or amino-substituted heterocyclic compounds of formula <FORM:0987252/C2/1> where A is CH or N, R is hydrogen or methyl and X is hydroxy or amino (provided that when A is CH, X is hydroxy and R is hydrogen, and when A is N, R is methyl) with a bacteriostatic compound which is n-dodecyl-guanidine, 2,21-dihydroxy - 3,31,5,51,6,61 - hexachlorodiphenylmethane, bis - N2,N21 - (3,4 - dichlorobenzyl) - 1,2-ethylenediguanidine, i.e. <FORM:0987252/C2/2> 1 - (4 - nitrophenyl) - 3 - (4 - chlorophenyl) urea, 1,11 - hexamethylene bis - (5 - p - chlorophenyl biguanide), 1,4-phenylene-bis-N1,N11-[(N2, N21-3,4-dichlorobenzyl)acetamidine] <FORM:0987252/C2/3> decamethylenediguanidine or sulphamethoxypyridazine. The adducts are probably hydrogen-bonded. They are made by mixing the components, conveniently in a common solvent; the adduct may crystallize out or be precipitated by addition of a non-solvent. Heat may be used.ALSO:The growth of bacteria on a surface is controlled by the application of bacteriostatic adducts of hydroxy- or amino-substituted heterocyclic compounds of formula <FORM:0987252/A5-A6/1> where A is CH or N, R is hydrogen or methyl and X is hydroxy or amino (provided that when A is CH, X is hydroxy and R is hydrogen, and when A is N, R is methyl) with a bacteriostatic compound which is n-dodecyl-guanidine, 2,21-dihydroxy - 3,31,5,51,6,61 - hexachlorodiphenyl-methane, bis - N2,N21 - (3,4 - dichlorobenzyl) - 1,2-ethylenediguanidine, i.e. <FORM:0987252/A5-A6/2> 1 - (4 - nitrophenyl) - 3 - (4 - chlorophenyl) urea, 1,11 - hexamethylene bis - (5 - p - chlorophenyl biguanide), 1,4 - phenylene - bis - N1,N11 - [(N2, N21 - 3,4 - dichlorobenzyl)acetamidine], i.e. <FORM:0987252/A5-A6/3> decamethylenediguanidine or sulphamethoxy-pyridazine. The active agents may be used alone or in compositions including solutions, suspensions, emulsions, pellets, granules, powders, and dispersions in semi-solid viscous carriers.
