titleOfInvention The eledone active polypeptide
abstract In a process for the extraction of the Eledone active polypeptide, the posterior salivary glands of Eledone are first extracted with a lower aliphatic alcohol, the alcohol is evaporated, the fats eliminated by a second extraction of an aqueous solution of the residue with petroleum ether, the resulting aqueous layer is concentrated, separated chromatographically and finally lyophilized. In a preferred embodiment the material from the first chromatographic separation over alumina is subjected to a chromatographic purification over a cationic resin. Pharmaceutical compositions contain the Eledone active polypeptide and a therapeutically acceptable carrier, with or without other therapeutic substances. The preparations are in a form suitable for parenteral administration. The polypeptide is an anti-hypertensive agent.
