titleOfInvention | Corrosion inhibitor |
abstract | The invention relates to hydroxybenzoic acid amides of the formula <FORM:0985117/C2/1> in which "alkylene" denotes an ethylene or trimethylene group and X is 2-4. The compounds may be prepared by heating a hydroxybenzoic acid with an appropriate amine, preferably under conditions which permit the escape of water as an azeotropic distillate. A typical example describes the preparation of an amide from salicylic acid and tetraethylene pentamine. The products are useful as corrosion inhibitors for ferrous metals (see Divisions C4, C5 and C7).ALSO:As corrosion inhibitors for ferrous metals, suitable for incorporation into paints, coating compositions or lacquers containing alkanolamines, and as corrosion-inhibiting additions to aqueous alkanolamine solutions for washing refinery gases in apparatus constructed of ferrous metal, use is made of hydroxybenzoic acid amides of the formula <FORM:0985117/C4-C5/1> in which "alkylene" denotes an ethylene or trimethylene group and X is 2-4 (see Division C2). A typical product is an amide prepared from salicyclic acid and tetraethylene pentamine.ALSO:As corrosion-inhibitors for ferrous metals, particularly for ferrous metals which come into contact with alkanolamines, use is made of hydroxybenzoic acid amides of the formula: <FORM:0985117/C6-C7/1> in which "alkylene" denotes an ethylene or trimethylene group and X is 2-4 (see Division C2). A typical product is an amide prepared from salicylic acid and tetraethylene pentamine. The products may also be used to inhibit corrosion in cooling towers, air-drilling and aerated mud systems, brine injection for flooding and/or disposal purposes, ballast systems on sea-going vessels, and pipeline cleaning or weighting. |
