titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to chrysanthemum carboxylic acid esters
abstract The invention comprises compounds of formula <FORM:0985006/C2/1> wherein X1, X2, X3, X4 are each H, halogen CH3, NO2, CH3O or CN; each Z is O or S; Y is a direct linkage or a C1- 3 alkylene radical and R is CH3 or CO2CH3. The compounds are prepared by reacting the appropriate N-hydroxy (alkyly phthalimide or thiophthalimide with chrysanthemum or pyrethic acid or with a lower alkyl ester, acid halide or acid anhydride thereof; or by reacting the appropriate N-halo (alkyl) phthalimide or thiophthalimide with an alkali metal salt of chrysanthemum or pyrethric acid. The examples describe the preparation of the N-phthalimide and (N-) phthalimidomethyl, -ethyl and -propyl esters of chrysanthemum acid (R = CH3); the (N-) phthalimidomethyl ester of pyrethric acid (R = CO2CH3); the (N-) phthalimidomethyl esters of chrysanthemum acid wherein the substituents are 4-chloro, 4-bromo, 3,6-dichloro, 3,4,5,6-tetrachloro, 3- or 4-nitro, 3-bromo-6-nitro, 3- or 4-methyl, 4-methoxy, 3-chloro-4-methoxy or 4-cyano; and the monothiophthalimidomethyl ester of chrysanthemum acid.ALSO:Insecticidal compositions contain as the active ingredient a compound of formula <FORM:0985006/A5-A6/1> wherein X1, X2, X3, X4 are each H1 halogen, CH3, NO2, CH3O or CN; each Z is O or S; Y is a direct linkage or a C1-3 alkylene radical and R is CH3 or CO2CH3. The compositions may contain additional active ingredients, e. g. pyrethrin, allethrin, dimethyl-(3-methyl-4-nitrophenyl), dithiophosphate, "Malathion" (Registered Trade Mark), diazinone, dimethoate, gamma-BHC, piperonyl butoxide, sulphoxide. Examples are given.
