abstract |
Copolymers of a methylpentene-1 with butadiene made by copolymerizing the monomers in the presence of the reaction product of vanadium oxytrichloride and an aluminum trialkyl or alkyl halide. The methylpentene-1 may be the 3- or 4-isomer. The polymerization is preferably effected in a hydrocarbon diluent, and the reaction terminated by addition of methanol containing phenyl-alpha-naphthylamine. The polymerizate may be extracted with acetone, ether, and toluene. The copolymer is vulcanized with sulphur. |
