titleOfInvention | Process for the purification of aromatic amines |
abstract | Aromatic amines are purified by distilling the amine after the addition of oxalic acid or an oxalate of a monohydric alcohol containing up to four carbon atoms to remove orthodiamines. In an example tolylene diamine containing 2.6% ortho isomers has added thereto anhydrous oxalic acid and is distilled under nitrogen and the product on solidification contains 0.6% ortho isomer. Other amines which may be similarly purified are aniline, m- and p-phenylene diamines, toluidines and naphthalene diamines. |
