titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to ethylenically unsaturated phenyl salicylate derivatives
abstract The invention comprises compounds of formulae <FORM:0980889/C2/1> or <FORM:0980889/C2/2> wherein X is acrylyloxy, acrylyloxymethyl, methacrylyloxy or methacrylyloxymethyl and Y and Z are hydrogen, alkyl, aryl, acyloxy, aralkyl or halogen. Preferred compounds are phenyl 2 - hydroxy - 4 - or 5 - (meth)acrylyloxy benzoates and 2-hydroxy-5-(meth)acrylyloxymethyl benzoates. The (meth)acrylyloxy compounds are prepared by reacting the appropriate acid chloride with the phenyl 2,4- or 2,5-dihydroxybenzoate; the (meth)acrylyloxymethyl compounds are prepared by reacting an alkali metal, e.g. Na, acrylate or methacrylate with phenyl 2-hydroxy-5-chloromethyl benzoate. Also exemplified are the preparation of 4 - t. - butylphenyl 2 - hydroxy - 5 - methacrylyloxymethyl benzoate and 4-methacrylyloxy-methylphenyl 2 - hydroxy - 5 - chlorobenzoate. Specification 980,888 is referred to.
