titleOfInvention | Process for aiding removal of fibre from fibrous plants by chemical action |
abstract | In the extraction of bast fibres suitable for spinning from plants such as kenaf, the stems are prepared e.g. as by spraying from aircraft (before or after harvesting) with a chemical mixture to soften the bark and the fibres subsequently removed by known mechanical decorticating methods. Examples of the active ingredient of the mixture include 2, 4-dinitro-ortho-cresol, 2, 4-dinitro-6-secondary-butyl phenol, 2, 4-dinitro-6-secondary-butyl phenyl acetate, pentachlorophenol and the mixture also includes a solvent and an emulsifier e.g. a non-ionic fatty acid polyglycol ester, or a wettable powder comprising the active ingredient, an inert carrier material and a wetting or dispersing agent. Additives may include mineral oil and diesel oil. |
