titleOfInvention High shrinkage synthetic linear polycarbonamides
abstract A synthetic linear polyamide having recurring amide groups separated by at least two carbon atoms as an integral part of the main polymer chain comprises the reaction product of (A) substantially equivalent weights of a saturated aliphatic dicarboxylic acid and an aliphatic diamine, and (B) from about 0.50 to 50% mole based on said saturated dicarboxylic acid of a monounsaturated dicarboxylic acid having from 6 to 10 carbon atoms or a diamine salt thereof. Specified saturated acids are sebacic, octadecanedioic, adipic, suberic, azelaic, undecanedioic, pimelic, brassylic and tetradecanedioic acid. Specified diamines are ethylene, propylene, tetramethylene, pentamethylene, hexamethylene, octamethylene and decamethylene diamine. Specified unsaturated acids are 2- and 3-hexenedioic, 2-and 3-heptene dioic, 2-, 3- and 4-octenedioic, 2-, 3- and 4-nonedioic, 2-, 3-, 4- and 5-decenedioic, 2-methyl-2-hexenedioic, 3-ethyl-2-hexenedioic, 2-methyl-3-propyl-3-hexenedioic, 2-butyl-3-hexenedioic, 2-ethyl-2-heptenedioic, 3-propyl-2-heptenedioic, 2-ethyl-3-methyl-3-heptenedioic, 2-methyl - 2 - octenedioic, 2 - methyl - 3 - methyl - 3 -octenedioic, 2-ethyl-3-octenedioic, 3-methyl-3-octenedioic, 3-ethyl-4-octenedioic, 2-methyl-4-octenedioic, 3-methyl-4-methyl-4-octenedioic, 2-methyl-2-nonenedioic, 3-methyl-2-nonenedioic, 2-methyl-3-nonedioic, 4-methyl-3-nonenedioic, 3-methyl-4-nonenedioic and 4-methyl-4-nonenedioic acid. The examples describe the preparation of polyamides from hexamethylene diammonium adipate and the hexamethylene diamine salt of 3-hexenedioic acid.
