abstract a -Aminobenzylpenicillin, or a non-toxic salt thereof, is produced by reacting a -bromobenzylpenicillin, or a non-toxic salt thereof, with hexamethylene tetramine. Specified salts are the sodium, potassium, calcium, aluminium, ammonium and substituted ammonium salts, e.g. salts of triethylamine procaine, dibenzylamine, N-benzyl-beta-phenethylamine, lephenamine, N,N1-dibenzylethylenediamine, dehydroabietylamine and N,N1-bis-dehydroabietylethylenediamine. The a -aminobenzylpenicillin is an antibacterial agent for human and animal use, e.g. mastitis in cattle, and is a nutritional supplement in animal feeds.
