titleOfInvention Poly-ª‡-olefine compositions and stabilizer combinations therefor
abstract Polyolefins are stabilized with a combination of a diester of thiodipropionic acid and a substituted phenol of formulae <FORM:0975112/C3/1> <FORM:0975112/C3/2> <FORM:0975112/C3/3> <FORM:0975112/C3/4> wherein R3, R4 and R5 are alkyl; R1, R2, R6, R7 and R8 are alkyl, cyclic hydrocarbon or H but with at least one of R1 and R2 and at least two of R6, R7 and R8 being other than hydrogen. The polyolefin may be derived from ethylene and/or propylene, methylbutene, methylpentene, pentene, dimethylbutene, octene or decene. Many diesters and phenols are disclosed, those preferred being dilauryl and distearyl thiodipropionate; 2-t-butyl -4- methoxyphenol and/or 3-t-butyl -4- methoxyphenol, n-propyl or lauryl gallate, 2,4,5-trihydroxy-n-butyrophenone, and 2,6-di-t-butyl -4- methylphenol. Unesterified thiodipropionic acid also may be present. The products find application as sheet, rods, tubes, pipes, film, filaments, and coating compositions.
