titleOfInvention Sulphenic acid derivatives
abstract The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:0973920/C1/1> wherein R and R1 represent hydrogen atoms or may be replaced by an addition of linkage between the carbon atoms to which they are attached, R1 and R2 represent hydrogen atoms or alkyl radicals or they may be joined to form an unsubstituted or substituted aromatic ring system, X1 and X2 represent chlorine, bromine and/or fluorine atoms, Y represents a carbonyl group, Z1 represents an oxygen or sulphur atom or a carbonyl or a =N-R3 group when R3 represents a hydrogen atom or alkyl group and Y and Z can together represent a -N=N-group and the preparation thereof wherein a compound of the formula <FORM:0973920/C1/2> is reacted with a sulphenic acid halide of the formula <FORM:0973920/C1/3> where X3 represents a chlorine or bromine atom at between 15 DEG and 80 DEG C., in the presence of an acid binding agent. The process is preferably carried out in an aqueous alkaline medium or in an inert organic solvent. The compounds of the invention are insecticides (see Division A5). Specifications 790,357, 927,834 and 931,586 are referred to.ALSO:Fungicical compositions contain, as the active ingredients, sulphenic acid derivatives of the formula <FORM:0973920/A5-A6/1> wherein R and R1 represent hydrogen atoms or may be replaced by an additional linkage between the carbon atoms to which they are attached, R1 and R2 represent hydrogen atoms or alkyl radicals or they may be joined to form an unsubstituted or substituted aromatic ring system, X1 and X2 represent chlorine, bromine and/or fluorine atoms, Y represents a carbonyl group, Z represents an oxygen or sulphur atom or a carbonyl or a = N-R3 group, where R3 represents a hydrogen atom or alkyl group and Y and Z can together represent a -N = N-group and a solid or liquid carrier. A large number of active compounds are specified. The compositions may be used for the protection of plants, particularly in the form of aqueous emulsions containing dimethyl formamide and a non-ionic emulsifier for treating tomato plants infected with the zoosporangia of Phytophthora infestans.
