titleOfInvention Alkali metal organo-trifluoroborates and their preparation
abstract The invention comprises the vinyltrifluoroborates and methyltrifluoroborates of potassium, rubidium and caesium. The novel compounds may be made by contacting vinyl- or methyldifluoroborane with a solution of potassium, rubidium or caesium fluoride at a temperature at which the solution is in the liquid phase but not above 30 DEG C. On completion of the reaction, the product may be dehydrated at a temperature not above 30 DEG C. and the desired product separated by solvent extraction using, for example, acetonitrile or other alkyl nitriles. Preferably air is excluded during the reaction and the reaction temperature may be from -15 DEG to +10 DEG C. Purified vinyldifluoroborane and methyldifluoroborane may be obtained by heating the corresponding salts described above. For example, potassium vinyl trifluoroborate may be heated at 250 DEG -300 DEG C. to yield vinyl difluoroborane and potassium methyltrifluoroborate yields methyl difluoroborane on heating to 275-300 DEG C.
