titleOfInvention | Improvements in the electrodeposition of nickel |
abstract | Addition agents of low solubility in nickel plating baths are added in the form of a solution dissolved in a mixture of a water-miscible organic solvent and water, e.g., acetone, methanol, propanol, diacetone alcohol, glycerol, glycols, polyglycols, glycol ethers, dioxane, formalin solution, acetaldehyde, lactones, ethanolamines, and tetrahydrofuran. As brightening agents coumarin, and derivatives e.g. 4-hydroxy coumarin, methoxy-coumarin, or halogenated coumarins are preferred. Optional additives include formic acid, a small amount of sulphuric acid, p-toluene sulphonamide, thio-carboxylic acids, cyanin dyes, and N-hydroxy isopropyl phthalimide. In examples, 5-100 g. of coumarin or a derivative are added to 300-800 c.c. of the solvent, and the mixture diluted with water to form a litre. The optional additions range from 1 g. to 75 g. per litre. Specification 920,922 is referred to. |
