titleOfInvention Method of stabilising high molecular polyoxymethylenes
abstract High molecular weight polyoxymethylenes are stabilized by incorporating therein at least one sulphur-containing compound of formulae: R-S-R1 or R-(Sn)R11 or <FORM:0971262/C3/1> where R represents a substituted or unsubstituted monovalent aliphatic hydrocarbon radical containing 3-25 carbon atoms or a substituted or unsubstituted monovalent cycloaliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon radical, R1 is hydrogen or a substituted or unsubstituted monovalent aliphatic hydrocarbon radical containing 1-25 carbon atoms or a substituted or unsubstituted monovalent cycloaliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon radical, R11 is R1 but not hydrogen, R111 is hydrogen or a substituted or unsubstituted monovalent aliphatic radical containing up to 20 carbon atoms, RIV is R111 or a substituted or unsubstituted monovalent aromatic hydrocarbon radical and n is 2, 3 or 4. The amount of stabilizer used is preferably 0.001 to 5% based on the polymer and a mixture of stabilizers dissolved in a solvent may also be used. The polymer to be stabilized may be acetylated. Very long lists of stabilizers include sulphides or polysulphides or mercaptans containing octyl, dodecyl or octadecyl radicals such as thiodipropionic acid didodecyl ester, 2-4-bis(dodecylthio)-1-5-dimethyl benzene, 2-4-naphthalylene-bis-dodecyl-sulphide, dithioglycol disalicylic acid ester, trithioformaldehyde and 2-4-6-tris (2-N-methylanilino -4- ethoxyphenyl)-trithiane.
