titleOfInvention Synthetic film of polycarbonate or polycarbonate-polyurethane materials having coatings adherent thereto
abstract A film base material consists of a highly hydrophobic film of a synthetic linear polycarbonate or of a polymer containing both carbonate and urethane linkages having coated thereon in order (1) a layer directly adherent to the film consisting essentially of a vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate copolymer which may be partially hydrolysed or a vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate/dicarboxylic acid terpolymer and (2) a layer consisting essentially of a methyl methacrylate/itaconic acid copolymer and gelatine. Optionally, the first layer may also comprise a methyl methacrylate/itaconic acid copolymer containing free carboxyl groups and/or a cross-linking agent which may be an alkyl ester of orthotitanic acid, e.g. tetraisopropyl titanate, or of zirconic acid, pyromellitic anhydride or a diisocyanate or a precursor thereof. The coatings may be applied as solutions in organic solvents, the first coating being dried before application of the second. An outermost gelatin-containing layer, e.g. a gelatino silver halide coating, may be applied in conventional manner. Specifications 772,627 and 918,046 are referred to.
