abstract | A fuel composition for reducing rumble in an I.C. engine of C.R. of at least 10 : 1 comprises a reformate gasoline (at least 60% vol. being reformate) containing at least 30% aromatic hydrocarbons and not more than 15% olefinic hydrocarbons, 1 to 2.75 c.c. per gallon of gasoline of tetramethyl lead as the sole anti-knock, and 0.1 to 0.5 theory of at least one aryl ester of orthophosphoric acid. Ethylene dichloride and dibromide, N,N1disalicylidene-1,2-diaminopropane and 2,6 ditertiary butyl-4-methyl phenol can also be present. |
