titleOfInvention | Ceramic pigments |
abstract | A blue ceramic pigment is produced by calcining substantially out of contact with air a mixture of compounds including at least one compound capable of yielding zirconium oxide, at least one compound capable of yielding vanadium pentoxide and at least one compound capable of yielding silicon oxide and also including a source of alkali metal ions, a source of fluoride ions and a source of halide ions selected from chlorine and bromine ions. The calcination is carried out in a confined space free from air currents, but air and moisture are normally present within the space and the temperature may be from 650 DEG to 1000 DEG C. The compounds capable of yielding ZrO, V2O5 and SiO2 may be ZrO, V2O5, SiO2, ammonium metavanadate, vanadium pentoxide, vanadyl chloride, silicic acid, zirconium hydroxide or carbonate. The source of alkali metal ions may be sodium fluoride, carbonate or siliconfluoride or potassium fluoride; the source of fluoride ions may be sodium or potassium fluoride, zirconium oxy-fluoride or vanadyl fluoride, and the source of halide ions may be ammonium or sodium chloride, vanadyl chloride or zirconium oxychloride. Specification 625,448 is referred to. |
