| abstract | Silica, alumina or alumina-silica of particle size less than one micron and having surface hydroxyl groups is reacted at below 115 DEG C. with a Group IVA, VA, VIA metal halide or oxyhalide in the vapour state, neat or diluted by an inert oxygen free carrier gas, to incorporate metal and halogen components on the surface.
