abstract To improve its smoking properties and the colour of the ash tobacco is treated with albaline-earth salts or organic peroxy acids e.g. magnesium performate. The salt may be added to the tobacco in form of a suspension or added to the normal sauces used in tobacco treatment in the proportion of 0.1 to 5% of the treated tobacco weight.
