titleOfInvention | Method of improving the operational efficiency of a fourdrinier paper making machine |
abstract | 969,118. Lubricating and cleaning Fourdrinier wires by chemical means. NALCO CHEMICAL CO. Sept. 20,1962 [Dec. 22,1961], No. 35810/62. Heading D2A. The working life of the wire of a Fourdrinier paper making machine is extended by applying to the return run of the wire while in operation a dilute aqueous solution of a combination of chemicals comprising: (a) from 5%-98% by weight of a water soluble, extreme pressure lubricant comprising a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compound characterised by a ring nitrogen bonded to a ring carbon to which is attached a sulphydryl group and (b) from 2%-95% by weight of a water miscible dispersing agent from the group consisting of water miscible nonionic and anionic dispersing agents. The solution which is preferably applied by sprays 17 to the return run of the wire immediately prior to the breast roll is supplied in sufficient quantity to provide at least 0.005 pounds of the combined chemicals per ton, dry weight, of paper produced by the machine, and serves both to lubricate the wire thereby reducing abrasive wear and also to prevent blockage of the open areas of the wire mesh by improving drainage characteristics. The composition of the mixture of chemicals may be modified, particularly where friction at the suction boxes is high, by the inclusion of from 0.001 to 0.5% by weight of a water dispersible organic silicon-containing compound from the group consisting of organo-silicon oxide condensation products and organo functional silanes. |
