titleOfInvention Methylchloroform degreasing compositions
abstract A degreasing composition comprises methylchloroform which contains stabilizing concentrations of (a) a dialkyxyalkane, (b) an aliphatic monohydric alcohol, (c) a nitroalkane, and (d) an epoxide. (a) generally comprises 0.05-5% by weight and is preferably 1 : 2-dimethoxyethane; (b) normally constitutes 1-5% by weight, contains up to 8 carbon atoms, and, if desired, more than one functional group, tert.-butanol being especially favoured; (c) comprises 0.5-5%, preferably 1.5-2.5%, by weight and normally contains 1-3 carbon atoms, nitromethane being preferred; and (d) is usually present in amounts of 0.05-5% by weight and contains up to 8, preferably 3 or 4, carbon atoms, 1 : 2-butylene oxide being particularly suitable. Many examples of other suitable compounds are also given. In general the total amount of additives comprises 2-8% of which (a) suitably comprises 0.1-1%, (b) 2-4%, (c) 1-3% and (d) 0.1-1%. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 930,973.
