titleOfInvention Production of detergent alkylate
abstract Detergent alkylate is produced by alkylating benzene in the presence of aluminium chloride or hydrogen fluoride with olefins obtained by oxidizing paraffins in the C10-C17 range containing at least 95% normal paraffins in the presence of boric acid to obtain borate esters of secondary alcohols and thermally decomposing the esters to olefins. Oxidation is effected at 100-300 DEG C. in the liquid phase restricting the conversion to below 40%. The esters are decomposed at 200-450 DEG C. and prior or subsequent to this step unreacted paraffins are separated by distillation, purified of oxygen compounds by treatment with sulphuric acid and recycled. Alkylation is conventional and the product is distilled to separate benzene for recycle, detergent alkylate and heavy alkylate.
