titleOfInvention Thiophosphonic acid derivatives and compositions containing them
abstract The invention comprises compounds of formula: <FORM:0967627/C1/1> where R is an alkylene or cycloalkylene radical having at least 2 carbon atoms, Y is -CXXR1, -XR3, -N(R3)2 or halogen and is an omega substituent except where R is cycloalkylene with no alkyl substituent on the ring, the R1's are hydrogen, hydrocarbyl or metallic or non-metallic cationic groups and may be the same or different, R2 is hydrogen or C1-4 alkyl, the R3's are hydrogen, alkyl or cycloalkyl and may be the same or different, and the X's are oxygen or sulphur and may be the same or different. They are prepared by reacting a mercaptan YRSH or the corresponding mercaptide with a compound <FORM:0967627/C1/2> in an inert solvent at reflux temperature. In one example Y =OH is converted to Y =Cl with thionyl chloride. The products are used as lubricant and fuel additives.ALSO:Synthetic lubricant compositions based on alkylene glycol-alkylene oxide copolymers, e.g. copolymers of ethylene and 1,2-propylene oxides contain an organophosphorus compound of formula: <FORM:0967627/C3/1> where R is a hydrocarbon radical having at least 2 carbon atoms, Y is -CXXR1, -XR3, -N(R3)2 or halogen and is an omega substituent except where R is an arylene or cycloalkylene group with no alkyl group on the ring, the R1's are hydrogen, hydrocarbyl or metallic or non-metallic cationic radicals and may be the same or different, R2 is hydrogen or C1- 4 alkyl, the R3's are hydrogen, alkyl or cycloalkyl and may be the same or different and the X's are oxygen or sulphur and may be the same or different. Composition G uses the compound: <FORM:0967627/C3/2>ALSO:Lubricant and fuel compositions comprise an organophosphorus compound of formula <FORM:0967627/C4-C5/1> where R is a hydrocarbon radical having at least 2 carbon atoms, Y is -CXXR1, -XR3, -N(R3)2 or halogen and is an omega substituent except where R is an arylene or cycloalkylene group with no alkyl group on the ring, the R1's are hydrogen, hydrocarbyl or metallic or non-metallic cationic radicals and may be the same or different, R2 is hydrogen or C1-4 alkyl, the R3's are hydrogen, alkyl or cycloalkyl and may be the same or different and the X's are oxygen or sulphur and may be the same or different. The phosphorus compound may be present as about 0.1 to about 25% of the total weight. Suitable lubricants include mineral and synthetic oils including polymerized olefines, alkylated aromatics, isomerized waxes, alkylene oxide-alkylene glycol copolymers, aliphatic dicarboxylic acid esters. Mineral oils may be blended with fixed oils and/or synthetic oils or silicone polymers. Other additives which may be present include silicone antifoaming agents, alkylphenols, e.g. bisphenols, polyacrylate esters, and long-chain fatty acids. Suitable fuels include gasoline, which may contain tetraethyl lead, kerosene, gas oil and fuel oil.
