titleOfInvention Production of unsaturated aliphatic acids
abstract Acrylic or methacrylic acids are prepared by heating the ammonium salt of the acid in solution or suspension in an inert liquid organic medium with a boiling point or minimum boiling point under the reaction conditions not lower than 80 DEG C. Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene or a xylene are mentioned as solvents, and the condensable distillate is refluxed during the heating. Ammonia is evolved and the free acid recovered by extraction or distillation.
