abstract | The invention comprises methyl 2, 5, 8-decatriene-1, 10 dioate and a method of preparation by reacting methyl 7-acetoxy-2, 5-heptadienoate with acetylene, carbon monoxide and methyl alcohol, in the presence of nickel carbonyl and hydrochloric acid. A temperature of from 20 to 60 DEG C. at atmospheric pressure is preferred and methyl acetate and acrylate are formed as by-products. The product is of a 2-cis-5-trans-8-cis form and may be hydrogenated on palladium to methyl sebacate, or saponified to 2, 4, 6-decatrien-1, 10-dioic acid. |
