titleOfInvention | Water dispersible antibiotics |
abstract | The water-dispersibility of a water-insoluble polypeptide antibiotic is increased by dissolving the antibiotic and a highly water-soluble polymeric material in a non-aqueous solvent such as methanol, ethanol, isopropanol, benzyl alcohol or pyridine and then removing the solvent, preferably by evaporation, to obtain a dry readily water-dispersible complex. The antibiotic may be tyrothricin, tyrocidine or gramicidin and the polymeric material may be a polymer or copolymer of vinyl pyrrolidone, a poly-N-vinyl oxazolidinone or a block copolymer of polyoxyethylene and polyoxypropylene.ALSO:A dry, readily water-dispersible complex of a water-insoluble polypeptide antibiotic and a highly water-soluble polymeric material is obtained by dissolving the antibiotic and the polymeric material in a non-aqueous solvent such as methanol, ethanol, isopropanol, benzyl alcohol or pyridine and then removing the solvent, preferably by evaporation. The antibiotic may be tyrothricin, tyrocidine or gramicidin and the polymeric material may be polyvinyl pyrrolidone, a copolymer of vinyl pyrrolidone and vinyl acetate or vinyl alcohol, a poly-N-vinyl oxazolidinone or a block copolymer of polyoxyethylene and polyoxypropylene. |
