titleOfInvention Compositions of asbestos and polyamides
abstract A polyamide composition comprises 20 to 80% by weight of one or more superpolyamides and 80 to 20% by weight of fibrous asbestos classified in Groups 5 to 7 of the Canadian System of Classification of Asbestos. Cross-linking agents e.g. formaldehyde, low polymers of formaldehyde or epoxides or silanes may be present in the compositions. Specified polyamides are polypentamethylene glutaramide, polypentamethylene succinamide, polytetramethylene adipamide, polyhexamethylene adipamide, polyhexamethylene pimelamide, polypentamethylene pimelamide, polyhexamethylene suberamide, polyhexamethylene sebacamide, poly-e -caprolactam, polyenantholactam and co- and ter-polymers thereof. In the Examples:-(1), (4) to (6) and (9) to (12) asbestos fibres are mixed with polyhexamethylene adipamide; (2) and (3) asbestos fibres are mixed with poly-e -caprolactam; (7) asbestos fibres are mixed with polyhexamethylene sebacamide; (8) asbestos fibres are mixed with a copolymer containing residues of hexamethylene adipamid and e -caprolactam; (13) repeats the procedure of (12) with (a) paraformaldehyde, (b) dicyclopentadiene diepoxide and <FORM:0963773/C3/1> being added as cross-linking agents and (14) repeats the procedure of (12) using asbestos fibres which have been sprayed with silanes.
