abstract The invention comprises the 17-hemisulphates of 17a -hydroxy-progesterone, 17a -hydroxy-19-nor-progesterone, 6a -methyl-17a -hydroxy-progesterone, D 1,4,6-pregnatrien-17a -ol-3, 20-dione and 1, 2a -methylene- D 4,6-pregnadien-17a -ol-3, 20-dione and physiologically acceptable salts thereof such as the sodium salts; and a process for the preparation thereof by treating the required free 17a -hydroxy-steroids with a reagent to form the 17-hemisulphate such as a pyridinesulphur trioxide adduct, and, when required, converting the resulting 17-hemisulphates into physiologically acceptable salts thereof.
