abstract | A composition comprises a major proportion of a polymer derived from at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer, e.g. styrene, substituted styrenes, lower-alkyl (e.g. methyl) acrylates or methacrylates, and a minor proportion, e.g. 8-33%, of the dimethyl ester of b , b , b -trichloro-a - hydroxyethyl phosphonic acid. The composition may be produced by polymerising the monomer in the presence of the ester and of a free-radical polymerisation initiator. The ester may be formed in situ from equimolecular proportions of dimethyl phosphite and chloral. The composition may be formed into articles. Specification 731,506 is referred to. |
