titleOfInvention | Improvements relating to the preservation of wood pulp |
abstract | The invention comprises trimethyl-, triethyl-, and tripropyl-tin 8-hydroxyquinolinates, and mixtures thereof. These compounds are prepared by heating the appropriate trialkyl-tin oxide with 8-hydroxyquinoline and filtering. The compounds may be used as preservatives for wood-pulp (see Division D2).ALSO:A self-emulsifiable fungicidal dispersion is obtained by mixing salts of trimethyl-, triethyl- or tripropyltin 8-hydroxy quinolinate with an oil soluble non-ionic wetting agent and a diluent if required. Wetting agents include polyethylene glycol esters, and diluents may be mineral oil, kerosene, white spirit and light to medium petroleum fractions.ALSO:Wood pulp is protected against wood rotting fungi by treating with trimethyl-, triethyl, or tripropyl tin 8-hydroxy quinolinate or a mixture thereof or a mixture of tripropyltin oxide or hydroxide and 8-hydroxyquinoline. The compounds may be applied in solvents such as methanol, ethanol, acetone and dioxane and 30-50 parts per million of preservative are used. The preservative may also be applied in the form of an emulsifiable dispersion containing a non-ionic wetting agent and if desired a diluent such as mineral oil, kerosene, white spirit or light to medium petroleum fractions. |
