titleOfInvention Improvements in and relating to foamed polymers
abstract A process for the preparation of foamed polymers comprises reacting in the presence of water and/or a blowing agent an organic polyisocyanate with hydroxy polyalkyleneoxy ethers of substituted tetrahydropyran having the formula: <FORM:0955970/C3/1> in which Y represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group containing 1 to 6 carbon atoms; R4 represents ethylene radicals, propylene radicals or mixtures thereof; m is 2, 3 or 4; and n is a number having a value of at least 2. The reaction may be effected in a single stage or by the prepolymer or semi-prepolymer methods. Foaming agents, catalysts, thickening agents, fillers, emulsifying agents, and retarding agents specified are the same as those used in the process of Specification 946,310. In examples foams are prepared by reacting together (1) a propylene oxide adduct of 3,3,5,5-tetrakis-(hydroxymethyl) - 4 - hydroxy - tetrahydropyran having a hydroxy number of about 357, dibutyl tin dilaurate, silicone oil surfactant, trichloromono fluoromethane and 2,4- and 2,6-tolylene diisocyanates; (2) a propylene oxide adduct of 3,3,5- tris (hydroxymethyl)-5-methyl-4-hydroxy tetrahydropyran, dibutyl tin diacetate, silicone oil surfactant, trichlorofluoromethane, and 2,4- and 2,6-tolylene diisocyanates; (3) an ethylene oxide-propylene oxide adduct of 3,5-(hydroxymethyl)-3, 5-dimethyl-4-hydroxytetrahydropyran of hydroxyl number about 168, dibutyl tin dichloride, triethylamine, silicone oil surfactant, water and tolylene-2, 4- and 2, 6-diisocyanates; (4) the hydroxypolymer as in (1), water, silicone oil surfactant, dioctyltin oxide and 2, 4- and 2, 6-tolylene diisocyanates containing ethoxylated cellulose.
