titleOfInvention | Bleaching packets |
abstract | A detergent-bleaching packet comprises a water-soluble packet of polyvinyl alcohol film enveloping a dry, water-soluble composition comprising a compound which liberates hypochlorite ions on contact with water and a detergent. The hypochlorite ion liberating compound may be di- or tri-chlorocyanuric acid or a salt thereof, N-chlorosuccinimide, N-chloromalonimide, N-chlorophthalimide, N-chloronaphthalimide, 1,3 - dichloro - 5,5 - dimethyl hydantoin, 1 - monochloro - 5,5 - dimethyl hydantoin, 1,3 - dichloro - 5 - methyl - 5 - isobutyl hydantoin, 1,3-dichloro-5-methyl-5-ethyl hydantoin, 1,3 - dichloro - 5,5 - diisobutyl-hydantoin, 1,3 - dichloro - 5 - methyl - 5 - n - amyl hydantoin, trichloromelamine, lithium hypochlorite or calcium hypochlorite. The synthetic detergent may be a water-soluble higher fatty acid alkali metal soap, lithium, sodium, potassium or magnesium alkylbenzene sulphonate, alkylnaphthalene sulphonate, fatty acid monoglyceride sulphate, alkyl sulphate, acyl isothionate, fatty ethanolamide sulphate, fatty acyl tauride, sodium toluene, xylene or naphthalene sulphate, sodium N-lauryl beta-alanine or cetyl pyridinium chloride. The poly-vinyl alcohol film which may have been prepared by the hydrolysis of polyvinyl acetate and is preferably free from ethoxylation is water-soluble so that with mild agitation it dissolves substantially completely in water at temperatures of 80-140 DEG F. within 30 seconds, the polyvinyl alcohol contributing soil anti-redeposition properties to the bath. The composition in the packet may also contain an olefine having a double bond containing a tertiary carbon atom, e.g. alpha-phellandrene, p-menthene-1, p-menthene-3, alphaterpinene, terpinolene, terpinyl acetate, terpineol, alphapinene, betapinene, pulegone, allo-ocinene, linalylacetate, neryl acetate, camphene, geraniol, pine oil, pine needle oil, orange terpenes, oil of cedar wood, polymerized isobutylene or propylene and 5-butyl-4-nanone; inorganic salts, e.g. sodium sulphate, sodium chloride, sodium carbonate, sodium silicate, mono- or tri-sodium phosphate, tetrasodium pyrophosphate pentasodium tri-polyphosphate and sodium bisulphate; fluorescent brightening agents, e.g. triazoles, such as <FORM:0955896/C3/1> and sulphonated 3,7-diamino dibenzothiophene dioxides such as <FORM:0955896/C3/2> ultramarine blue; a mineral oil; sequestrants, e.g. ethylene diamine tetra-acetic acid and its salts; sodium carboxy methyl cellulose; citric acid; polyvinyl pyrrolidone and polyacrylates; starch; urea; perfumes; corrosion inhibitors, e.g. melamine; and colouring matter. The packets may be stored in moisture-impermeable containers, e.g. metal foil or metal foil covered paper board bases and/or polyethylene bags. Specification 954,736 is referred to.ALSO:A bleaching packet comprises a water soluble packet of polyvinyl alcohol film enveloping a dry, water-soluble composition which liberates hypochlorite ions on contact with water. The hypochlorite chlorine ion compound may be di- or tri-chlorocyanuric acid or a salt thereof, N-chlorosuccinimide, N-chloromalonimide, N-chlorophthalimide, N-chloronaphthalimide, 1, 3,-dichloro 5, 5 dimethyl hydantoin, 1-monochloro-5, 5 dimethyl hydantoin, 1,3 dichloro 5-methyl-5-isobutyl hydantoin, 1,3 dichloro 5-methyl-5 ethyl hydantoin, 1,3 dichloro 5,5-diiso butylhydantoin, 1,3 dichloro-5-methyl-5-n-amyl hydantoin, trichloromelamine, lithium hypochlorite or calcium hypochlorite. The polyvinyl alcohol film which may have been prepared by the hydrolysis of polyvinyl acetate and is preferably free from ethoxylation is water soluble so that with mild agitation it dissolves substantially completely in water at temperatures of 80 DEG -140 DEG F. within 30 seconds, the polyvinyl alcohol contributing soil anti-rede position properties to the bleaching bath so that the packets are suited for use in conjunction with detergents for washing and bleaching clothes. The composition in the packet may also contain an olefine having a double bond containing a tertiary carbon atom, e.g. alpha-phellandrene, p-methene-1, p-methene-3, alphaterpinene, terpinolene, terpinyl acetate, terpineol, alphapinene, betapinene, pulegone, allo-ocinene, linalylacetate, neryl acetate, camphene, geraniol, pine oil, pine needle oil, orange terpenes, oil of cedar wood, polymerized isobutylene or propylene and 5-butyl-4-nonene, anionic, ampholytic or cationic detergents, numerous examples of which are given, inorganic salts, e.g. sodium sulphate, sodium chloride, sodium carbonate, sodium silicate, mono or tri sodium phosphate, tetra sodium pyrophosphate penta sodium tripolyphosphate and sodium bisulphate, fluorescent brightening agents e.g. triazoles, such as <FORM:0955896/D1-D2/1> and sulphonated 3, 7 diamino dibenzothiophene dioxides such as <FORM:0955896/D1-D2/2> ultramarine blue, a mineral oil, sequestants, e.g. ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid and its salts, sodium carboxy methyl cellulose, citric acid, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, polyacrylates, starch, urea, perfumes, corrosion inhibitors, e.g. melamine, and colouring matter. The packets may be stored in moisture impermeable containers e.g. metal foil or metal foil covered paper board boxes and/or polyethylene bags. Specification 954,736 is referred to. |
