titleOfInvention | Method of repairing conduits |
abstract | 955,042. Conduits; inspection chambers. WARSOP DEWATERING Ltd. Nov. 23, 1962 [Feb. 23, 1962], No. 7095/62. Heading E1C. A method for blocking unwanted apertures in a conduit (or manhole) comprises treating the conduit with a solution or suspension of coagulatable material and treating the conduit with coagulating agent to coagulate the coagulatable material. The treatment with coagulating agent is carried out subsequent to the treatment with coagulatable material which may coagulate to form a gel and be sodium alginate, e.g. a solution containing 1-3 % thereof in water. An anti-biotic is preferably incorporated therein, e.g. a soluble copper salt. The coagulating agent with sodium alginate is preferably an aqueous solution of calcium chloride. The treatment with coagulatable material is preferably done under super-atmospheric pressure and also that with coagulating agent, the pressure in the latter treatment being preferably less than in the former. In one example a solution or suspension of the coagulatable material is pumped into a section of a conduit, excess thereof being removed, coagulating agent being then supplied to the section, having one end blocked with a fixed plug, the other end being blocked by a movable plug, the coagulatable material being pumped in between the plugs and the coagulating agent being supplied to the conduit behind the movable plug which is subsequently moved towards the fixed plug. |
