abstract | The zinc oxide resinous compositions of the parent Specification contain as sensitisers certain hemioxonol dyestuffs which have an enolizable-CS-NH-group in a heterocyclic ring. Many suitable dyestuffs are mentioned. Specified resins are silicones, silicone-alkyds, styrenebutadiene copolymers, styrene-alkyds, soyaalkyds, polyvinyl chloride and polyvinyl acetate. The compositions are made as in the parent Specification. Specification 954,017 also is referred to.ALSO:The Specification describes the preparation of the following dyestuffs which contain an enolizable -CS-NH- group in a heterocyclic ring <FORM:0954018/C3/1> where R is H, alkyl or aryl, X is O, S, NR2 or NR3CO, n is 0, 1 or 2, R2 and R3 are H, alkyl or aryl; (1) R1 is aryl, by condensing the appropriate cyclic ketomethylene compound with an aldehyde such as benzaldehyde or cinnamaldehyde, suitably substituted if desired, e.g. by amino, hydroxy or alkoxy; (2) R1 is arylamino, by reacting the appropriate acylarylaminovinyl compound (see Specifications 517,769 and 670,038) with a primary amine, e.g. aniline or p-hydroxyaniline <FORM:0954018/C3/2> where R, X, R2 and R3 are as above, R4 is aryl or heterocyclic and Q completes a cyclohexene ring, by reacting isophorone or an alkyl derivative thereof with the appropriate cyclic ketomethylene compound (e.g. thiobarbituric acid) and condensing the product with an aromatic aldehyde (optionally substituted by amino, hydroxy or alkoxy), e.g. p-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde. 2 - Thio - 5 - (41 : 41 - dicyano - butadienyl)-barbituric acid is made by condensing malononitrile with the corresponding 5-(31-acetanilidoallylidene) compound. 5 - (p - diethylaminophenylimino) - rhodanine is made by condensing rhodanine with p-nitrosodiethylaniline. Other p-nitrosodialkylanilines can be reacted similarly, and other appropriate cyclic ketomethylene compounds can be used, e.g. thiobarbituric acid. Specifications 396,646, 428,359, 515,998, 517,769, 542,905, 624,462 and 954,617 also are referred to. |
