abstract | The invention comprises 3, 4-dihydro-1, 2, 4-benzothiadiazine 1, 1-dioxides of the general formula: <FORM:0953464/C2/1> (wherein each of R1, R3 and R5 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl radical, R2 represents an unsubstituted alkylmercaptoalkyl radical, and R4 represents a halogen atom or a trihalomethyl group) and their alkali metal salts, and pharmaceutical preparations containing the foregoing compounds in admixture or conjunction with a pharmaceutically suitable carrier. The compounds may be made by reacting a compound of the general formula: <FORM:0953464/C2/2> with an aldehyde R2-CHO (or an acetal thereof), or reducing the D 2 or D 3 double bond in a corresponding 1, 2, 4-benzothiadiazine 1, 1-dioxide, and in either case, if desired, alkylating a resulting product containing a substitutable nitrogen atom and/or converting a resulting salt into the free compound or vice versa. The pharmaceutical preparations, which have diuretic, natriuretic and hypotensive activity, may be in the form of capsules, tablets, dragees, solutions, suspensions or emulsions. Specification 861,367 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 909,687.ALSO:3,4-Dihydro-1,2,4-benzothiadiazine 1,1-dioxides of the general formula <FORM:0953464/C3/1> (wherein each of R1, R3 and R5 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl radical, R2 represents an unsubstituted alkylmercaptoalkyl radical, and R4 represents a halogen atom or a trihalomethyl group) may be prepared by electrolytic reduction at the C=N bond of compounds of the general formula or <FORM:0953464/C3/2> Specification 861,367 is referred to.
