abstract Ethyl hydrazinoacetate hydrochloride is prepared by reacting a haloacetic acid with hydrazine or a hydrazine-yielding compound in the presence of an alkali metal hydroxide to give an alkali metal salt of hydrazino-acetic acid, from which the free acid is liberated by acidification, dried and subsequently reacted with ethanol (or methylated spirits) containing hydrogen chloride.
