titleOfInvention | Recovery of by-product adipic acid |
abstract | Adipic acid is recovered from a crude mixture of cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone prepared by the oxidation of cyclohexane in a liquid phase by molecular oxygen, by steam distilling the crude in a stripping zone, removing and cooling the tails from the stripping zone to 20-40 DEG C. and maintaining at that temperature for at least one hour to crystallise the adipic acid which is separated and washed. The cooling stage may be under a pressure of 10 mm. mercury, and the product may be washed with a mixture of cyclohexane, and refined cyclohexanone-cyclohexanol. Specification 806,660 is referred to. |
