titleOfInvention | Acrylonitrile polymer composition stabilized |
abstract | Compositions comprise a polymer containing at least 80% by weight of polymerized acrylonitrile and up to 20% by weight of at least one copolymerized mono-olefinically unsaturated monomer and, as light stabilizer, 0.025 to 2.0% by weight of the polymer of zinc acetate, zinc oxide, zinc oxalate or chromium acetate. The compositions may comprise a blend of a copolymer of acrylonitrile and a mono-olefinically unsaturated comonomer with a copolymer of acrylonitrile and a vinyl substituted tertiary heterocyclic amine, many suitable comonomers and amines being listed. The polymers may be dissolved in solvents, e.g. dimethyl formamide, dimethyl acetamide, ethylene carbonate, dimethyl sulphoxide, nitromethane, gamma-butyrolactone, aqueous zinc chloride, aqueous sodium thiocyanate, sulphuric acid and nitric acid; spun into a coagulating bath to form fibres which are immersed in a finishing bath and further processed to form a finished product containing 0.025 to 2.0% of the stabiliser, said stabilizer being added to the spinning solution and/or finishing bath. In examples fibres are spun from solutions comprising acrylonitrile-vinyl acetate copolymers, dimethylacetamide and titanium dioxide to which are added (I) zinc acetate and (II) zinc acetate, zinc oxide, zinc oxalate and chromium acetate. |
