abstract | Water is removed from gaseous formaldehyde by washing it with a diester of a polyethylene glycol or a monoester of a monoalkyl ether of a polyethylene glycol at 80-120 DEG C. Preferably the esters are derived from polyethylene glycols having 2-15 ethylene glycol units and the alkyl radicals of the monoesters contain 1-4 carbon atoms. The esters used are preferably those of acetic acid. |
