titleOfInvention New dithiophosphate esters and insecticidal and miticidal compositions containing them
abstract The invention comprises compounds of the general formula: <FORM:0947484/C2/1> wherein X is oxygen or sulphur, n is 0 or 1, and R is a saturated C1-C3 aliphatic hydrocarbon radical when X is oxygen and R is methyl when X is sulphur. They may be obtained by the addition of two molecular proportions of the corresponding dialkyl phosphorodithioate to one molecular proportion of divinyl ether (or sulphide) or diallyl ether (or sulphide). The addition reaction may be carried out in the presence of a solvent or diluent, e.g. benzene, toluene, or xylene and it is desirable to add a small amount of an oxidation inhibitor e.g. hydroquinone, to the reaction mixture. Suitable reaction temperatures are from about room temperature to about 75 DEG C. or up to the reflux temperature of the solvent or diluent if used. It is preferred to use a slight excess of the dialkyl phosphorodithioate. Examples are given and the products have pesticidal properties (see Division A5).ALSO:A pesticidal composition comprises an inert carrier and a compound of the formula <FORM:0947484/A5-A6/1> wherein X is sulphur or oxygen, n i 0 or 1, R is a saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon radical when X is oxygen and R is a methyl radical when X is sulphur (see Division C2). The composition may be a solid, e.g. a dust prepared by mixing the active compound with a finely divided solid, e.g. talc, clay, pyrophyllite, diatomaceous earth, fuller's earth, or a flour such as walnut shell, wheat, redwood, soyabean, or cottonseed flour, or it may be a liquid composition prepared by mixing one or more of the active ingredients with an inert liquid diluent, e.g. kerosene, xylene, fuel oil or an alkylated naphthalene, and an anionic, cationic or non-ionic surface active agent, several of which are specified, may also be present. Other pesticides or fertilizers, activators, adhesives, spreaders or synergists may also be included in the composition.
