titleOfInvention Novel polyurethane foams
abstract The invention comprises a rigid polyurethane foam comprising the reaction product of an aromatic diisocyanate, a polyoxypropylene ether having a molecular weight in the range of 200 to 1200 which is the condensation product of propylene oxide with a hexahydric alcohol and a gas generant. The gas generant can be a low boiling liquid which vaporizes under the heat of reaction or can be provided by excess diisocyanate and a compound having one or more active hydrogen atoms, which may be water, polyoxypropylene ether or a dibasic acid, specifically succinic acid. Sorbitol, mannitol, dulcitol and iditol are suitable hexahydric alcohols. In the reaction mixture there may also be incorporated siloxane foam stabilizing and emulsifying agents, accelerators such as methyl piperidine, N,N,N1,N1-tetramethyl-1,3-butanediamino, tribenzylamine and pyridino, and antioxidants such as benzoquinone, hydroquinone, pyrogallol, 2, 6-di-t-butyl-4-methylphenol, amines and salts having oxidisable functions. In the example a foamed product is prepared by blending (a) a product obtained on heating together sorbitol propylene oxide reaction product, toluene diisocyanate, 2,6-di-t-butyl-4-methylphenol and silicone emulsifying agent and (b) more sorbitol/propylene oxide reaction product, monofluorotrichloromethane, triethylene diamine, N.N.N1, N1-tetramethyl-1,3-butane diamine and more 2,6-di-t-butyl-4-methylphenol. Specification 947,483 is referred to.
