titleOfInvention | Process for the separation of an organic mixture containing hydrocarbons by means ofextractive distillation |
abstract | In the extractive distillation of hydrocarbon mixtures, the distillation is effected without reflux and solvent is recovered from the overhead outside the distillation column and re-used in the distillation. The separation of olefins from paraffins, aromatics from non-aromatics or heavy aromatics from light aromatics may be effected using a sulpholane or sulpholene type of solvent or a poly-glycol type. The solvent may be recovered from the raffinate overhead by distillation or, preferably, by water washing, e.g. in a rotating disc contactor, the aqueous solution being distilled together with the extract bottoms from the extractive distillation to recover solvent which should preferably be dry. Specifications 625,505, 659,241 and 764,650 are referred to. |
