abstract | Basic tin compounds of formula: Rn-Sn-X4-n where R is an organic radical, X is an organic radical obtained by removing the hydroxyl hydrogen atom from a basically substituted phenol or from an oxime which is basically substituted or is derived from a basic, nitrogen containing heterocyclic compound and n is 1, 2 or 3, may be made by reacting (i) organotin oxides and hydroxides of formula: <FORM:0945068/C2/1> with the appropriate basically substituted oximes or phenols, the water being removed by azeotropic distillation; (ii) organotin alkoxy compounds of formula: Rn Sn(OR1)4-n in which R1 is an alkyl radical, with appropriately basically substituted phenols or oximes; or (iii) organotin halides of formula: Rn Sn(Halogen)4-n with salts of appropriately basically substituted phenols or oximes. Specification 936,395 is referred to.ALSO:Fungicidal and bactericidal compositions comprise a tin compound of general formula Rn-Sn-X4-n, where R is an organic radical, X is an organic radical obtained by removing the hydroxyl hydrogen atom from a basically substituted phenol or from an oxime which is basically substituted or is derived from a basic, nitrogen containing heterocyclic compound and n is 1, 2, or 3, together with a solid or liquid diluent or carrier. R may be a monovalent aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic radical or a substituted derivative thereof. A long list of suitable radicals is included. The radical X may be derived from basically substituted phenols such as p-(N.N-dimethylamino) - phenol, m - (N.N - dimethylamino)-phenol, p - (N.N - diethylamino) - phenol, p-(N - methyl - N - ethylamino) - phenol, p - (dimethylaminomethyl)phenol and 2,4,6-tris (dimethylaminoethyl)phenol. The oxime may be derived from basically substituted compounds such as 1-dimethylamino-pentan-4-one, 1-diethylamino - pentan - 4 - one, 1 - dimethyl amino - 2 - methyl - butan - 3 - one, 1 - diethylamino - 2 - methyl - butan - 3 - one, 2,2 - bis-(dimethylaminomethyl) - butan - 3 - one, p - dimethylaminobenzaldehyde, p - diethylaminobenzaldehyde, b - dimethylaminoacetaldehyde and pyridine-aldehyde. The active compounds may be mixed with any appropriate solid or liquid carrier or diluent together if necessary with compounds such as emulsifiers. Specification 936,395 is referred to. |
