titleOfInvention Primary aryl monoamines containing a thiosulphuric acid group and process for their manufacture
abstract Primary aryl monoamines containing a thiosulphuric acid group, which is linked to the nucleus, either directly or through a bridge member, in a position other than ortho to the amino group, are prepared by reducing the salts of the corresponding nitro-compounds in the presence of metallic iron and ferrous ions in a substantially neutral aqueous medium. The products in which the aryl nucleus is of the benzene, naphthalene, diphenyl or diphenyl ether series and is not further substituted, or is substituted by halogen atoms or alkyl or alkoxy groups, and in which the thiosulphuric acid radical is linked to the nucleus either directly or by a group -CH2-, -SO2-NH-CH2-CH2, -SO2-N(CH3)-CH2-CH2- or -CO-NH-CH2-CH2-, and claimed as new compounds. The preferred source of ferrous ions is ferrous sulphate, and when a sodium salt of a nitroaryl thiosulphuric acid is reduced the presence of ammonium chloride or a magnesium salt may be advantageous. Examples are given of the manufacture of 3-aminophenyl thiosulphuric acid, 3-amino-4, 6-dichlorobenzyl thiosulphuric acid, 3-amino benzenesulphonylmethyl - b - aminoethyl thiosulphuric acid, and 3-aminobenzyl thiosulphuric acid. Other specified products are 3-amino-4-methoxybenzyl thiosulphuric acid, 5-aminonaphthyl-(1)-methyl thiosulphuric acid, 4-aminophenoxy-b -ethyl thiosulphuric acid, 4-aminobenzoylamino-b -ethyl thiosulphuric acid, 3-aminobenzoylamino - b - ethyl thiosulphuric acid, 3-aminobenzenesulphonylamino-b -ethyl thiosulphuric acid, 3 - amino - 6 - chlorobenzenesulphonylmethylamino -b - ethyl thiosulphuric acid, 3-amino-4-chlorobenzenesulphonylamino-b -ethyl thiosulphuric acid, 4-aminodiphenyl-41-carbonylamino-b -ethyl thiosulphuric acid, 4-aminobenzenesulphonylamino-b -ethyl thiosulphuric acid, 3-amino-4-methylbenzenesulphonylamino-b -ethyl thiosulphuric acid, and 3-amino-6-methylbenzene sulphonylamino-b -ethyl thiosulphuric acid. Reference is made also to the reduction of 3 - nitroacetophenone -o - thiosulphuric acid, 4-nitrophenylethylamino-b -ethyl-thiosulphuric acid, 4-nitroacetanilide-o -thiosulphuric acid, 4-nitrophenyl acetate-o -thiosulphuric acid, 4-nitrophthalimino-b -ethyl thiosulphuric acid, 5-nitronaphthalimino-b -ethyl thiosulphuric acid, 4-nitrobenzoylamino-b -propyl thiosulphuric acid, [N-(4-nitrophenyl)-N1-methyl -b -ethyl thiosulphuric acid]-urea 4-nitrodiphenyl-41-sulphonylamino-b -ethyl thiosulphuric acid and 4-nitrodiphenylether-41-carbonylamino-b -ethyl thiosulphuric acid. Specification 751,889 is referred to.
