titleOfInvention | Polymeric antioxidants |
abstract | 943,060. Polymeric antioxidants. B. F. GOODRICH CO. Jan. 26, 1962 [Jan. 26, 1961], No. 3157/62. Headings C3P and C3Q. A polymeric antioxidant is prepared by reacting at 50 to 200‹C. a polymer of at least 50% of conjugated diene hydrocarbon-the polymer having less than 50% of the diene units in 1,4 configuration-with an aromatic amine having at least one amine group attached to an aromatic carbon atom. Specified dienes are butadiene, 1 and 2- methyl butadienes, 2-3-dimethyl and diethyl butadienes and 2-ethyl butadiene, together with their copolymers with styrene, alpha-methyl-styrene, vinyl toluene, the vinyl xylenes, divinyl benzenes, trivinyl benzenes, acrylonitrile, methacrylonitrile, vinylidene cyanide, vinyl formate, acetate, propionate, laurate and benzoate, isopropenyl acetate methyl, ethyl, butyl and dodecyl acrylate and methacrylate 2-ethyl hexyl methacrylate and decyl methacrylate. Specified amines are diphenyl amine, monoctyl diphenylamine, dioctyl diphenyl amine, and mono and dinonyl diphenyl amine. An acid catalyst such as an alkane sulphonic acid, and a halide of boron, aluminium or tin may be used in the presence of a solvent which may be excess amine reactant. The antioxidants may be used with any polymeric material including natural rubber, conjugated diene polymers and copolymers both rubbery and non-rubbery, polymers and copolymers of acrylic acid esters, of vinyl halides and vinylidene halides and polymers of ethylene, propylene and butene-1. |
