abstract Shampoo and washing compositions, suitably in the form of aqueous solutions or dispersions, comprise (a) a N-fatty acyl derivative of lysalbinic acid or a salt thereof, (b) lysalbinic acid or a salt thereof in an amount less than that of (a), and (c) an anionic foaming agent in an amount more than that of (b) but less than that of (a). Generally (a) comprises (by weight) at least 40 parts, (b) 5-45 parts, and (c) up to 45 parts. Foaming agent (c) may be an alkyl sulphonate, but is preferably an alkyl sulphate or an alkyl polyglycol ether sulphate. The composition may also contain a froth stabilizer, e.g. ethyl ethoxycellulose or a fatty dialkanolamide, in an amount less than that of (c), typically up to 10%. (a) and (b) are suitably used in the form of their alkali metal, especially their sodium, salts. U.S.A. Specification 2,015,912 is referred to.
