titleOfInvention | Process for improving the dyeability of textile materials and products obtained therefrom |
abstract | 941,667. Grafting on to fibres. POLYPLASTIC. May 5, 1960 [May 6, 1959], No. 15952/60. Heading C3G. The dyeability of textile fibres is improved by ozonizing them and then graft copolymerizing thereon at least two monomers polymerizable by a free-radical mechanism, at least one of the monomers having an affinity for acid dyes and at least one of the monomers having an affinity for basic dyes. Textile fibres specified are cotton, wool and drawn synthetic fibres made from cellulose esters, nylons polyethylene terephthalate, polyacrylonitrile polyethylene, polypropylene, polycarbonates, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride and a vinylidene cyanide -vinyl acetate copolymer. Monomers specified having (a) an affinity for acid dyes, and (b) an affinity for basic dyes are: (a) vinyl pyridines, vinyl acetate, vinyl propionate, vinyl thiophene, p-methoxystyrene, acrylamide, methacrylamide, hexamethylene bisacrylamide, vinyl pyrrolidone and vinyl carbazole; and (b) acrylic and methacrylic acids and nitriles and esters thereof, e.g. ethyl acrylate and butyl methacrylate, crotonic, itaconic, aconitic, maleic and fumaric acids and esters thereof, maleic anhydride, chloroacrylic acid and methyl vinyl ketone. The monomers may be applied to the textile fibres in the form of undiluted liquids, as solutions in organic liquids, or in vapour form. Specifications 791,453, 883,709, 898, 709 and 898,710 are referred to. |
